GBC Calls On UK Government To Improve Energy Efficiency
The UK Green Building Council (GBC) states that household energy efficiency must become UK’s top infrastructure priority. The Green Deal is the Government’s energy efficiency policy which has not been succesful.
The GBC is calling on the Government to back energy efficiency efforts with aims of permanently reducing consumer energy bills and creating new jobs. It is calling for Government-lead incentives that encourage homes to take action, and prioritise capital spending on energy efficiency. Similar to the home-to-buy scheme, GBC believes that such incentives will improve energy efficiency.
What About Global Warming?
Almost half of the UK’s carbon dioxide emissions, the main greenhouse gas which causes climate change, actually come from the things we do every day (Energy Saving Trust 01/04/08).
The Government of UK has committed to reducing carbon emissions by 80% by 2050 (Climate Change Act 2008).
Here are some interesting stats on the state of some of the global warming culprits, and yes UK is in the red!
